The Calico Horse Whisperer – A Lorraine Turner Lecture

September 28 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

In 2014 I became a professional animal communicator, not a pet psychic— but someone who is trained and certified by one of the top communicators worldwide. I have worked hundreds of cases helping animals and people internationally. Overtime this work began influencing my textile art.
The inspiration for all of my work begins with a silent meditation. During this time images, scents, sounds, feelings and thoughts appear. After the meditation has ended and I’ve gathered my notes— I head to my studio where the fun begins. I will lecture on how I transform the animal’s story using various fibers and textiles.  I will speak on the many techniques that make up each piece and how I integrate them. Techniques are both machine and by hand and some may include:
• felting
• wet-felting
• hand embroidery
• beading
• raw appliqué
• embellishing and more.
I will show samples of art and explain how I allow the fibers, fabric, threads and embellishments to do the work. I will speak on the various stabilizers and backing fabrics I use and the importance of a good foundation.  In closing, I will address the  Importance of quieting our hearts and looking within to find that extra spark which will take our art to the next level. A level of SELF expression that is unique and begins with connecting our passions with our purpose. What makes YOUR heart sing?
ALL of my work continues to support endangered animals worldwide.
