Quilt Blocks of the Month/Quarter

FCQ is pleased to share our “Blocks of the Month/Quarter” which are designed by talented creators in our guild. Each month or quarter, members sew blocks and a drawing is held which determines the lucky person who is the recipient. Our Blocks of the Month/Quarter come with instructions and are archived in alphabetical order. Enjoy!

This is the block for November. Technique to learn: Using a Square in a Square Ruler

The November Block of the Month is the classic “Square in a Square” block.
Below is a simple pattern which is the traditional way of creating the block, using triangles.
However, if you use a “Square in a Square” ruler, you sew strips along the 4 edges of the block, then use the ruler to cut the corners at 45 degree angles — thus eliminating having to work with triangles.
Let’s make this block in the colors of autumn!
